Cocktail Tools

Shaker

A cocktail shaker is arguably the most essential tool for making cocktails. Shaking your drink gives a good mix of all ingredients, and lets them chill with ice cubes with minimal dilution.

There are three different kinds of cocktail shaker;

  • Cobbler Shaker (Also known as Standart Shaker)
  • French Shaker (Also known as Parisian Shaker)
  • Boston Shaker (Also known as American Shaker)

Cobbler Shaker (Left)

A Cobbler Shaker is a three piece shaker which consists of a tin, a lid with a built-in strainer and a cap. All three pieces will be made from the same material which will be some form of stainless steel.

These integrated straining holes remove the need for a strainer but can cause a slow pour of the cocktail.

It is due to the small volume and integrated strainer that the Cobbler Shaker is known as beginners’s shaker.

French Shaker (Middle)

The French Shaker is in-between the Cobbler Shaker and Boston Shaker. It has the shape of a Cobbler Shaker, but like the Boston Shaker, it misses the built-in strainer.

All two pieces will be made from the same material which will be some form of stainless steel.

French Shaker gives the chance to achieve the visual flair of the Cobbler Shaker, but keep the practicality of the Boston Shaker.

Boston Shaker (Right)

The Boston Shaker is also known as professionals’s shaker.

The Boston Shaker consists of a shaking metal tin and a mixing glass tin.

The Boston Shaker have a larger capacity than other shakers, so allow for a lot more movement of the ingredients inside.
